The United States is a Republic, we elect representatives to govern for us. We the people, do not have the ability to direct what government will do.    

Therefore, Democrats are Republicans.

In a real democracy you do not elect anyone, you simply vote on proposals. Of course, a real democracy would be the end of politics as we know it.   

Switzerland and Liechtenstein are considered direct democracies. Citizens make direct choices, and these nations are very well manged.

The United States is governed by elected representatives, by those that can afford to use the media, to mold political sentiments. It would not be easy to convert our Republic into a direct democracy.  

But, we could learn how to manage a direct democracy ...
