The future of computing is on the internet, with data management systems that are private, secure, and free. The internet is the best place to keep your files, photos and to communicate with others.

Join me in considering what is the best standard for both business, and personal use. 

Civilsocialmedia.com is a working example, and prototype of these technologies. The site is designed as a place to learn how to use this free technology as it evolves while developing a user administered social media/retail platform.  

The first let me introduce you to Roles and Permissions. These  gives users access to a site. You have been given a Role, with a basic set of Permissions, other Roles give greater access to internal accounting, data, and communication tools.

Out of the box there are three Roles  ANONYMOUS USER, AUTHENTICATED USER and ADMINISTRATOR. If you give no permissions to the ANONYMOUS USER, a site is private. 

When you sign in, you will have access to what is known as a LAMP stack. LAMP is an acronym of four open-source components: the Linux operating system, the Apache HTTP Server, the MySQL relational database management system, and the PHP programming language 

LAMP is the standard of most of the internet. Apache runs 65 percent of all Web sites  and MySQL relational database is the most popular there is.  The interface we use to run LAMP is the most complex there is, called Drupal... all free, and open source. 

Data is called Content. On our site we have a content type called Locations. You can organize and sort data with Views  as a Grid  or Map  or Table.  Locations were designed as a marketing tool.  Content can be designed in many ways, as a product for sale, or anything you like.

Its like an "erector set" for data management, and you can build things like Uber and Amazon with it, or a simple private place to upload, sort and file your family pictures, and once again... its free.   

It is my hope, that once you become more familiar with the technology, you will then participate with the innovation, and the operation of what we provide.
