We are all consumers, and as consumers we are almost all equal. If consumers act collaboratively, as one entity they have the ability to regulate price and supply just as industrial monopolies can do. From the mid 1750's, economics has evolved from a supply side economic system, where production was its dominant aspect, to a demand sided economy of over production. Throughout human history we were driven by scarcity, we spent our existence building walls to defend those who had resources from the "have-nots", barbarians. This function has been the singular cause of human conflict, from domestic disputes, to wars. Society is now driven by opposite conditions, we now have the ability to over produce, and must create demand for many needless products by advertising. The consumer is now in the drivers seat of economic activity. Civilsocialmedia.com is a marketing e-commerce platform built around a social media framework that is user managed. It is the store you own, a delivery mechanism for goods and services you control. Since every user is also a consumer it is a marketplace that is consumer driven. Think of the implications. Since the industrial revolution, we have moved from an economy that was driven by scarcity, to one of over supply. The above graph visualizes the dramatic shift of manufacturing jobs since only 1950 as technology continues to find ways to replace us all. Productivity has obviously been a good thing for humanity, although possibly not so good for everyone. The significant difference between past means of production and those of today is that in the past production was based on skill, and today it is based on capital. If you have done well in this society, you are then a captain of capital, and by owning the means of production you have the greatest benefits of productivity. On the other hand if you are an employee, you most likely have less than you would have had ten years ago. What makes us all equal with the captains of capital is that we are all consumers, and that there are intrinsic limits to consumption. In a world where the cost of making anything is working its way down to nothing, the real operative economic variable is the consumer. For it is pointless to manufacture anything if no one will purchase it. Civilsocialmedia.com Think of the implications. Plus, it can't hurt to learn new things. |
